The Plan :)

There are only two people in our group;Jaleela and Haleemah. As we are such a small group we have had to try harder to come up with an alternate idea which can be done by two people but that is still interesting and creative and so after much thought and discussion we have come up with a plan that will hopefully work successfully.

We are going to be recreating the music video 'Wile out' by the artist Ms Dynamite.
The length of the original song is 3 minutes 5 seconds long, however we may extend this duration slightly to allow it to fit with our adaptation effectively. Our target audience will be males and females between the age of 15-24. We have chosen this target audience as we know that this song is often played in clubs for younger people and because of the feel to the song, therefore we feel that this song is very relevant today. Ms Dynamite is a UK artist who comes from London and so many people who are from less wealthy areas will like this song because the artists herself has come from a poor background and so the song could also be aimed at a working class audience, this is shown through the simplicity and rawness of the mise en scene in which it is just an basement party.
The video is going to be based on the concept of the song. The song is about people going out and having a good time hence why it is called 'wile out'. We want to do lots of shots of Manchester as the city it is and convey to people that it is actually a lively place to be whereas most people believe that there is nothing to do in Manchester. We will show people going out to clubs at night and leaving the clubs which will give us some good images. We are going to be using many different locations that are gritty and urban. The reason we have chosen this is because it fits with the concept of having fun and going crazy and the actual song itself. We do not want to show "posher" areas as it would not be aimed at our target auience, however we will have people from all different backgrounds to try and incorperate all social groups. In keeping with our city theme we want to use locations such as the met line, LLevenshulme train station, and short cuts of traffic and people going out in town. The reason we want to show shots of traffic is because we want to keep the pace of the song alive and upbeat and using transport will give the illusion of travel and so if we have a fast cut rate then people will feel the liveliness of the video. We also want to show people singing along but we do not want them to be impersonating Ms Dynamite herself, we just want a range of different people saying 'wile out'. This will give the video a unique look and feel to it.
We want this video to also represent us as people as well as just show what we can do with the song because we both come from mixed cultured backgrounds and in these areas we hear this sort of music and can relate to both the song and the artists. It helps us to forget about the hardship of life and reminds us to enjoy ourselves as well as working hard to get out of the run down areas we live in and also gives us hope that we could make something much better of our lives as the artist of the song was in the exact same position.
The song is going to have a fast cut rate as it is an up beat song. It will begin in my house (Haleemah's) and i will be getting ready to go out and have a good time and take my camera with me to film Manchester and the people that live in. This video is meant to show Manchester through the eye's of the person with the camera so there will be a few time's when i perform the song myself and other times when it is a hand held camera showing people 'wiling out'. The phrase 'wile out' means to go out and have a good time and go crazy, this phrase was used by surfers when they would go and ride waves and so it fits perfectly with the concept of the song.
The style of the video is very current as the media nowadays is has become more reality TV freindly and catching people as they are just doing their everyday activities, and so the video is a very good way of portraying realism as not only is it a hand held camera but it is stopping people there and then to say 'wile out' and so it is spontaneous. We want to capture that feel good feeling right as it happens. Which is why we decided to use a mix of both a narrative approach and disjunction in our video. The fact that we will be using disjuncture means that we will not constantly have to have someone "acting" as there are only 2 of us in the group, it wud be difficult to film us both. It also means that there will not be a need for costumes as we will use realism, this seems better as having it low budget we felt that trying to create a certain effect could result in the video looking tacky.
