"It's kind of random"
Whilst carrying out our music video we have had a number of problems from rejection to the weather being uncooperative. We filmed our music video and began to edit it but in the process of doing this we constantly showed it to people to get feed back from a viewers perspective. Certain people believed that it was very good and liked the idea of the video being a 'feel good' video and the randomness. Others did not like it because of the repetitiveness of the song. The song is a song that is often played in clubs. It is not a song that has important lyrical content it is mainly about the beat of the song and the base of it hence it being part of the genre rapidly being referrred to as 'funky house' which is why we picked the song because we wanted to challenge ourselves instead of doing a performance like everybody else. The idea of the song is to in some way show how a young person would think and act which is why you see many videos like this from university students because this is the age when we start finding out new things, independance and exploring the world and that involves having crazy thoughts and ideas. We think that even though people are entitled to their own opinion, many people criticized the video for different reasons but ultimately we kept our key concept as although we took it as constructive criticism we felt comfortable with our initial base. The video is a modern and new way of doing a music video, we are used to seeing a performer with back up dancers and big flashy cars and half naked girls dancing about but we wanted to show the creative side to making a video. We wanted our video to be realistic which is why we did not plan it with people we just went out with a camera and told random people to say 'Wile out'. This is why the moority of our shots are handheld as we wanted to show that it was all from her point of view, so we also used many point of view shots and also an eyeline match. We wanted to catch them in their normal atmosphere eg. whilst serving food at a take away or whilst doing a tattoo. We took a lot of time to edit the video because of how small the cuts had to be. The song is fast and snappy and so the video had to keep up with the song but this meant doing very fast cuts that are even hard to see at some points, this was to show all the diffrent things that happen all around manchester. That is the reason that we also added a different song in the beggining to contrast the classical, calm music of her getting ready inside her quite house, to the chaos of her heading out on the lively bubbling streets of manchester. We think that this is a good thing because it shows how hard we worked to get the video together and how many different locations we went to.
